CHILE'S TERRIBLE DROUGHT
It's no surprise to see this days on the news, information about the lack of water in different regions of the country. One incident that has started discussion in society is the drought that has affected the city of Petorca in Valparaiso, which has been caused by improper extraction of water by avocado producing companies. Small farmers in the area have been severely affected because they cannot harvest vegetables or feed their animals, some farmers have been fined with millions of pesos for unclear reasons.
Because of this situation and many others going on, the central and local authorities are already taking a series of measures to face the consequences of this mega-drought with actions and new regulations. And while public discussions reappear in projects such as the water highway, the environment will become increasingly hot as the summer period approaches. In this picture, the big companies are also taking measures, either in the development of their products, processes or even with their suppliers. For example, for companies like Coca-Cola, water is the main ingredient of their products, so they are focused on a series of efficiency practices in their treatment, use and reuse, in addition to the evaluation and planning of their water resources long-term.

As a chilean citizen, i hope this situation changes for the good of our people and the environment, also as a future public administrator this opens my mind to new ways of confronting this type of issues.
